Ever since HTML5 and CSS3 has peaked its head into the web development scene, developers have been deep in the trenches. They have been testing the limits as to what exactly you can make the browser do by way of HTML5 and CSS3.

Through their “trial and error” comes HTML5 Please. This very useful site helps you look up HTML5, CSS3, etc features, tells you if a browser is ready to use them, and how to implement them.

You can filter them by browser, mobile support, category (css, html, api, js), status (use, use with caution, avoid), and requirements (polyfill, prefixes, fallbacks).

Ever since Apple announced Siri people have wanted the capability to send tweets using her. I mean, Apple could have easily added the functionality since it has incorporated Twitter into the OS, but for some reason did not.

Here comes the jailbreaking community to the rescue. If you have a jailbroken iPhone 4S, you can now send tweets via Siri with a tweak called Sireet.

This FREE tweak is as simple as they get. Just download it and you are ready to go. There are no settings to set. If just using your iOS5 Twitter settings to set itself up. Just say ‘Tweet’ and then your message and Sireet does the rest. You do not even have to confirm it. It is automatically sent to your Twitter feed.

Of course you are going to need a jailbroken iPhone to be able to use this. If you need help jailbreaking, use my simple tutorial.

We can’t deny it. No matter what smart device we have, there are those moments that cause the device to seize up and just become none responsive. Usually at the most inconvenient time.

Now you will not have to worry when it happens again. Here are two simple steps you should take if an app decides to crap out.

1. Press and hold the awake button. You should now see the shutdown screen.
2. Once there, release the awake button and press and hold the home button. Keep pressing until you are at the home screen.

Presto! Your frozen app is now closed and you can proceed.

This sweet jailbreak tweak comes from the same group that brings us the Siri Mic Colors. It is called Slate Siri Background.

To change the background of Siri, follow these steps.

• Open Cydia
• Tap Manage
• Tap Sources
• Tap Edit
• Tap the “+” icon and add the follow url: http://repo.technetec.com

Once the repo has been added to Cydia, you will be able to search for Slate Siri Background. Just install it, respiring, and you are good to go!

Are you bored with Siri’s default purple mic color? Yeah me too. If you have a jailbroken iPhone 4S, you are in luck.

Siri Mic Colors is a great new tweak for your newly jailbroke iPhone 4S. Once it is installed from Cydia for free, Siri will now flaunt some rainbow bling.

One cool thing about this tweak is that the colors change based on the intensity of your voice. But if rainbow is not your thing, you can just download single colors as well.

This tweak is not from a repository that come default with Cydia, you won’t find it by just searching. You are going to have to add a repo to Cydia. Here’s how.

• Open Cydia
• Tap Manage
• Tap Sources
• Tap Edit
• Tap the “+” icon and add the follow url: http://repo.technetec.com

Once Cydia downloads the packages, tap of the url. You will now see the color choices you can choose from and install.

Want this tweak but haven’t jailbroken your iPhone 4S? Use this easy, simple guide to do so.

The most anticipated untethered jailbreak ever has finally made it appearance just earlier today. This jailbreak is name ‘Absinthe’ and is very easy to use.

It is compatible with the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running the following iOS builds:

• iPhone 4S iOS 5.0 – build 9A334, iOS 5.0.1 builds 9A405 or 9A406
• iPad 2: iOS 5.0.1 – build 9A405

Jailbreaking using Absinthe

• Download Absinthe  - Mac | Windows | Linux
• Plug your device to the computer
• Open up Absinthe and click the “Jailbreak” button (if you have a passcode on your device make sure to disable it first)
• Let the device set and Absinthe will do its thing and proceed to jailbreak (this will take some time)
• Once the jailbreak is finished, your device will restart.
• When your device it booted back up, you will see an Absinthe icon on your homescreen. Click on it to automatically download Cydia from Greenposi0n website.
• Device will restart one more time

You should now see Cydia installed on your device. You are now successfully jailbroken. Do a little dance!

Troubleshooting:

There are some users (I did) that are getting a “Error establishing a database connection” after pressing the Absinthe icon. If you see that message, follow the directions below.

• Launch “Settings” and tap on “Network”
• Tap on VPN and turn to “ON” and ignore the error
• Reboot the device
• Launch Absinthe again

Another tip from @planetbeing:

Toggle VPN only AFTER Absinthe says it’s done, or it will not work. VPN SHOULD error and then reboot soon. If it does not, rerun Absinthe!

Firecrackers are a popping! Well at least for me.

The most anticipated jailbreak since the jailbreaking started has been finally released. This provides and untethered jailbreak (meaning there is no need to connect it to your computer to boot the phone up) for A5 devices running iOS 5.0.1.

Make sure to backup for device before jailbreaking it.

Absinthe is compatible with:

• Phone 4S: iOS 5.0 (9A334) and both builds of iOS 5.0.1 (9A405, 9A406)

This is only for A5 devices, if you are wanting to jailbreak your A4 device, you can use Redsn0w.

*The Chronic Dev Team warns that if you are wanting to carrier unlock your device, stay at iOS version 5.0 or build 9A405 of iOS 5.0.1. There is no ETA on a software unlock for Absinthe.

Well this news just about makes all the jailbreaking communities day! I know it makes mine.

I predicted that the jailbreak would be out by this week and sure enough pod2g has proved me correct.

Pod2g promises a full, untethered jailbreak for A5 devices with a few hours courtesy of a program called Absinthe.

pod2g writes:

I know the wait was long, too much long, but it’s about to end! You’d be able to free your iPhone in some hours.

A tool named Absinthe and developped by the Chronic Dev Team will install the untether on your device. Also the iPhone Dev Team will release a CLI (command line) tool to help diagnose issues and repair things if it goes wrong.

This is a little scary I know, but the chance you break something is really small, since we made lots of tests to verify the process on different devices. But it is the first time we use the backup / restore functions of iTunes to install software, and there are maybe things we are not aware of.

As you already know, different security researchers put a lot of energy to work out the different issues we had to install the untether on new devices.

This tool will unlock any iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 and iPad2 running iOS 5.0.1.

What does this mean?

It means keep refreshing your browser. I will keep you updated and once this thing hits, I will let you know. I will also be posting how to’s so you can get your jailbreaking fun on. TGIF!

When Apple announced iBooks Author, an app that will allow you to create your own stunning iBooks, it was quite an exciting time. I mean, we can now create our own iBooks, for FREE, and distribute them!

But after looking into the app and legal jargon, there are some things that are gathering quite a bit of attention.

Some interesting findings in the end-user license agreement (EULA) for the free iBooks Author app reveal Apple’s ‘walled garden’ approach played out in yet another area of its business. Dan Wineman points to the “About” section of iBooks Author and the particularly detailed EULA that publishers must agree to when exporting iBooks for the iPad.

Not only does Apple get a 30% cut of all iBooks sold in the iBookstore, but publishers aren’t allowed to sell their books anywhere else. If you make your book in iBooks Author, you must sell it in the iBookstore or give it away for free somewhere else. You can only make a profit under Apple’s control, and your iBook can be pulled from the store at Apple’s discretion or not even approved in the first place.

Here’s the legal jargon:

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you charge a fee for any book or other work you generate using this software (a “Work”), you may only sell or distribute such Work through Apple (e.g., through the iBookstore) and such distribution will be subject to a separate agreement with Apple.

B. Distribution of your Work. As a condition of this License and provided you are in compliance with its terms, your Work may be distributed as follows:

(i) if your Work is provided for free (at no charge), you may distribute the Work by any available means;

(ii) if your Work is provided for a fee (including as part of any subscription-based product or service), you may only distribute the Work through Apple and such distribution is subject to the following limitations and conditions: (a) you will be required to enter into a separate written agreement with Apple (or an Apple affiliate or subsidiary) before any commercial distribution of your Work may take place; and (b) Apple may determine for any reason and in its sole discretion not to select your Work for distribution.

Wineman explains this policy with a striking analogy:

It’s akin to Microsoft trying to restrict what people can do with Word documents, or Adobe declaring that if you use Photoshop to export a JPEG, you can’t freely sell it to Getty. As far as I know, in the consumer software industry, this practice is unprecedented.

Apple seems to be approaching the iBooks the same way it did the App Store, you’re in or you’re out. If you want to make money, it’s the iBookstore or the highway.
